Antalya Downtown Transfer

Antalya's downtown core, centred on Kaleiçi (the old town) and the surrounding Muratpaşa district, sits about 15 km from Antalya Airport (AYT) — roughly 25–35 minutes by road. Unlike the purpose-built resort belt further along the coast, this is a genuine working city centre: a walled old town of narrow cobbled lanes, Ottoman-era houses and small boutique hotels, wrapped by the modern streets of Muratpaşa where most of the city's shops, restaurants and larger hotels are located.

Kaleiçi is anchored by Hadrian's Gate, a Roman triumphal arch built for Emperor Hadrian's visit in 130 AD and still one of the city's most photographed monuments, and by the Yivli Minaret (the fluted minaret), a 13th-century Seljuk structure that has become an unofficial symbol of Antalya. The old town slopes down to the horseshoe-shaped Kaleiçi Marina, where yachts and tour boats moor beneath the old city walls, and from the clifftop park above you get open views across the Gulf of Antalya to the Beydağları mountains. Just inside the walls stands the Saat Kulesi (Clock Tower), one of the last surviving Ottoman-era structures in the old town, marking the point where Kaleiçi's lanes give way to the wider grid of Muratpaşa.

Kaleiçi's interior is a pedestrian-friendly maze of narrow, sloped and sometimes stepped lanes — many boutique hotels are only reachable by dropping bags at the nearest accessible point and walking the last stretch, which is far easier managed with a driver who knows exactly where that point is than with a tram ticket and a suitcase. The AntRay tram does connect the airport to central Antalya, but its nearest stop is still a walk from most Kaleiçi addresses, and it doesn't run overnight — a private transfer goes door to door regardless of arrival time.

If you're staying inside the old town walls, it's worth telling your driver the specific gate or landmark nearest your hotel, since street names inside Kaleiçi can be short, repeat, or not appear reliably on maps. Hotels in the wider Muratpaşa area outside the walls are usually reachable directly by car, so transfers there are more straightforward. Either way, a fixed price agreed before travel avoids the uncertainty of a metered taxi fare into an area some drivers navigate more confidently than others.

Beyond Kaleiçi, downtown Antalya is also the practical base for day trips — the Antalya Archaeological Museum, one of Turkey's largest collections of Anatolian antiquities, Karaalioğlu Park along the clifftops, and the Konyaaltı and Lara beaches are all a short taxi or transfer ride away, which is part of why many travellers choose the city centre over a resort further along the coast even when they're not staying at a beach hotel. Downtown Antalya also gets noticeably busier during the April–October high season, so it's worth allowing a little extra time either side of the stated 25–35 minute drive if you're travelling in summer or arriving around a public holiday.
