Two hours of coast: what the drive involves
The Alanya transfer follows the D400 the whole way east — past Belek, across the Serik plain, through the Manavgat district and along the shoreline stretch by İncekum and Avsallar before the silhouette of Alanya castle appears ahead. Plan on one and three-quarter to two and a quarter hours in normal conditions. Summer Saturdays push journeys toward the top of that band, since the same highway carries every changeover transfer on the coast, and short roadworks sections crop up on the D400 in most seasons. A brief stop for the washroom or a drink is no problem on a private transfer — just ask the driver.
One thing worth knowing before you book: Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport lies only about 40 minutes east of Alanya, so if your airline offers a Gazipaşa flight, that route is shorter. Most charter and scheduled capacity still lands at Antalya, though, and this page covers that longer, more common corridor.
Alanya beyond the beach photo
Alanya is a proper town rather than a purpose-built resort strip. A Seljuk castle crowns the rocky peninsula at its heart, the Kızıl Kule (Red Tower) guards the old harbour below, and Cleopatra Beach stretches west of the rock with the sand the town is famous for. The hotel districts fan out along the coast: Oba and Kestel immediately east of the centre, and Mahmutlar — popular with long-stay visitors and apartment guests — about ten minutes further on. Damlataş cave sits right beside Cleopatra Beach at the foot of the castle rock. Tell us the district when booking; Mahmutlar adds a noticeable final leg compared with a central address.
Why buses struggle on the airport–Alanya run
Intercity coaches connect Antalya's otogar with Alanya's bus station frequently, and they are decent value — but the chain is the problem. From the airport you first need the tram or a taxi into the otogar, then the coach, then another taxi from Alanya otogar to your hotel or apartment, easily turning two hours of driving into four or more of travelling. Shared shuttle vans do run the corridor at busy times, though after a two-hour highway leg they still face a slow crawl through Alanya delivering other passengers before you. A metered taxi over 125 km leaves the final cost open until arrival. With children, luggage or a late landing, the single fixed-price car is the option that keeps an already long day short.
Making a long transfer day easier
Book child seats in advance for this route — two hours is the longest resort leg on the Antalya coast, and a proper seat is non-negotiable for small children over that distance. Note your terminal at Antalya Airport so the meeting point is right, and keep your phone reachable after landing in case the driver messages the exact door. For the return, we schedule Alanya pickups around four hours before European departures in July and August, slightly less off-season; Mahmutlar and Kestel guests should add a few minutes for the run into the highway.
